BAYA was commissioned to undertake a substantial design upgrade of X2 Luxury Spa Resort, an established five-star property on Koh Samui. Rather than a cosmetic refurbishment, the project evolved into a broader rethinking of key guest spaces, architecture and interiors to create a more cohesive and contemporary hospitality experience.
At the heart of the transformation was an entirely new architectural concept for the spa reception, creating a stronger arrival and transition into the resort’s wellness experience. Architecture, lighting, materials and landscape were brought together to establish a distinctive new identity for the spa.
The restaurant and bar were extensively redesigned with new spatial planning, bespoke joinery, lighting, furniture and a richer material palette, while the private pool villas and guest accommodation received new interior concepts, finishes and detailing. Existing architectural elements were retained where appropriate, allowing for a significant transformation without unnecessarily rebuilding the established resort.
Across the project, architecture, interiors, furniture and lighting were considered as part of a single guest journey. The result gave the property a more confident hospitality identity, demonstrating how targeted architectural intervention and comprehensive interior design can reposition an established resort for a new generation of guests.
