Set within the mature woodland of Biltmore Forest in Asheville, North Carolina, this private residence was conceived as a permanent family retreat — a home designed for everyday life, extended family gatherings and generations to come.
The architecture responds quietly to its 4,000 square metre forest setting, preserving mature trees and framing views through the surrounding oaks and pines. Expansive glazing, covered terraces and carefully positioned living spaces establish a constant relationship between the house and landscape.
At the heart of the home, dramatic vaulted oak ceilings and exposed structural beams define generous open-plan interiors. Natural stone, handcrafted timber, bronze detailing and tactile finishes create a warm, understated material language designed to become richer with age.
A dedicated guest wing provides privacy for visiting family and friends, while a lap pool, outdoor fireplaces, covered dining terraces and a circular forest fire pit extend family life beyond the architecture and into the landscape.
The architecture responds directly to the woodland setting, preserving mature trees and using expansive glazing and carefully framed views to maintain a continual connection with the surrounding landscape.
Natural stone, solid oak beams, handcrafted timber and restrained finishes establish a warm, timeless palette selected for its authenticity, durability and ability to age gracefully.
Generous living spaces, a dedicated guest wing and extensive indoor and outdoor entertaining areas allow the house to adapt naturally from everyday family life to larger gatherings.
Covered terraces, outdoor fireplaces, dining areas and the lap pool extend the principal living spaces into the landscape, creating places that can be enjoyed throughout the seasons.
